Sunday is usually the day when every family prepares a more festive lunch, everyone sits down together at one table, and now and then there is even something baked. In my family, for many years it was roast chicken and rice, which I adored as a child, and at my grandmother's house there was always homemade compote. Nowadays, when I prepare family lunch in my own kitchen, I don't want to miss a nicely set Sunday table. It's the only day of the week when I have the time and inclination to play around with the table settings.
Thankfully, the days when glass microwave plates were all the rage are gone and the classic porcelain trend is back on trend. I know from my own experience that less is sometimes more. That's why I keep disposable white plates, classic cutlery and a large soup bowl in my kitchen. There are a couple of serving plates, condiment bowls and all I need to complete the right atmosphere are just flowers in a vase and white napkins. I also don't skimp on the dipping bowls, in which you can serve, for example, salad dressing or sauces for steaks without worrying that someone won't have enough. That way, everyone scoops as much as they like.
I often experiment in cooking and it's the simple dining that is best. You adapt it to the season, your mood or the occasion. Can you imagine serving tomato soup on a bold green plate with yellow flowers? That won't create a luxurious atmosphere. But by using a simple inventory, the right tablecloth and accessories, you can set up a romantic Valentine's Day dinner for your other half and serve a festive lunch for your parents the next day, for example.
And what's the best thing about white china? If something breaks, you can easily replenish it. And if you get a little bored you can easily combine it. My eye was drawn to the clean DELTA plates and the FLORA accessories, which have a subtle pattern and a more graceful shape as opposed to the austere plates. This way we have a service for every day at home and also a place setting for special occasions.
